RETURN TO TIMBUKTU

When al Qaeda-backed terrorists invaded the legendary city of Timbuktu, they outlawed music, burned instruments, and threatened to cut out the tongues of local singers. This caused hundreds of thousands to flee, and put Mali on the brink of a cultural downfall. Now, in defiance of that terror, a courageous group of Malian artists and organizers are on a mission. With plans for a symbolic album leading to the revival of Timbuktu’s historic “Festival au Désert” concert, they will attempt to harness the power of music to restore the will of a nation.
